Sketch's #17, #18, #19, and #20

Ok, so my daughter and I are going through this simple learning how to draw book (You Can Draw Anything, Kim Gamble) as a precursor to a better, more complicated drawing book. This exercise is sort of to get us warmed up for the other book :) I had a half hour break between tutees and decided to see if I could a) remember what we had drawn the day before and b) see if I could remember how to draw them according to the book. Well I did and they turned out okay. The cat has a long neck and looks like he is either annoyed or trying to hypnotize you. Mr. Tiger has great fur and whiskers. The pelican needs to eat better. And, believe me, the owl looks way better than it did the first time.

We finished the people last week and this week will start on perspective in the book. The people were interesting... Perspective will be better.

These are all great... I think Jean will have a hard time choosing which of the bottom two drawings are her favorite! :)

Thanks, Deb!

Sometimes it's amazing what can be done in less than 5 minutes. My break usually ends up being 15-20 minutes taking into account cleaning up and talking to the parent of the last student and then preparing for the next. I enjoy sketching during this time. Because tutoring is so intensive while working with the student, it is soothing to draw when I have a chance either during a break or beforehand.

Jean will probably find them not too accurate especially since they are a copy of someone else's sketch and from my memory... Hopefully she will leave some pointers :)

Theta, these are fun, and just a bit funny too. You sure are right that the pelican needs better nutrition. You have the basics, but looking at photos of real ones is probably the best way to see their shapes. The owl really is very like popular images focusing on the big eyes. For what you are doing, they are just fine (and I really like the hypnotist cat!)

Thanks, Jean for not being too hard on me (or the other author)!

You are correct, if I had a good photo or stuffed bird in front of me the sketches would be better. Unfortunately,I can't draw fast enough to catch one on the wing, not enough practice. I don't like sketching in the plain air, ugh.
