#4a WB2 Leaf Dragon Purple 54

Let me know what you think of this guy. I sketched him in my new waitbook and scanned the inked image. Then I opened it up in Illustrator and traced it. Afterwards, I moved the tracing to Photoshop and commenced coloring. I think it turned out okay, but I won't quit my day job just yet ;D  I am still planning on finishing the one in my waitbook 2 using colored pencils. It seemed to take a lot longer to color this guy on the computer than it would by hand. But there are definite advantages to doing it this way, especially because I now have a vector outline of my image which is extremely versatile. I don't know if I will color more this way now, but I think I will try to get them all traced before I color them. Doing so will give me more options later. A couple nice things about coloring this way is that there are no smudges, no white pencil tracks, and swirling the color is fun. The satisfaction I get from coloring is not there though.

Anyway, have a great and blessed day!

#2 WB2 Brown Leaf Dragon 53

This is the first sketch I drew in my new book. Naturally I had to draw a leaf dragon...

It's been raining and gray lately, flooding, etc., so perhaps that is why I chose browns. He would definitely blend in with the reddish-brown soil we have around here. Or, maybe, he's just been splattered or been rolling in the mud :D

The pages in my new book are whiter and wider than my old one. I definitely like the whiteness and the extra space is great too.  My pencil lines are digging into the paper a bit more than the old book, so I think I am going to have to switch to a softer pencil or face quit a bit of line clean-up like I did for this fellow. In the original the the whiteness of the scar lines don't show up too bad, but when I scanned the drawing they were quite distracting. After I scan a drawing, I put it into Photoshop to clean it up a bit and in doing so I blow the thing up a lot. Every imperfection shows up. It can be tricky to keep the texture of the pencil and paper while getting rid of stray marks and smears. Therefore, the better the original, the less end processing work, and I don't know about you, but I'm all for less work :D

Have a great day!

#1 WB2 Dedication Page

This is the dedication page for my new waitbook. I had fun doodling all sorts of things into this page as you can see. It is a bit more green than I had intended, but I like the way turned out anyway. I started it while I was cleaning up and posting the last few pages of Waitbook 1.

Have a blessed day!

Sketch #109 Leaf Dragon Red-Orange 52

Congratulations to me!

I finally finished something ;)

This is the last sketch from my Waitbook 1. He is a pretty red orange, a nice bright ending to my book.

Thanks so much to my Dad for giving me the inspiration to start and finish this Waitbook.

I hope my viewers have enjoyed the sketches from my Waitbook 1. Hopefully I will be able to post sketches from Waitbook 2 soon. perhaps tomorrow...

Hugs to all,
Theta

Sketch #108 Leaf Dragon Blue and Green 51

This is my second one of the curly feeling leaf dragons. I like the way the ears and tail turned out on this one a bit better than on the first one of these I did. Although, this one, for some reason, does make me think of Princess Leia. Go figure.

One more to go :)

Have a great day!

Hugs,
Theta

Sketch #107 Leaf Dragon Yellow-Orange and Green 50

Well, there are only two more after this one from my Waitbook 1. I'll post them tomorrow :)

This guy makes me think of oranges on an orange tree. Perhaps that is where he hides eating the bugs that would ruin the crop...

Have a sunny afternoon!

Sketch #106 Leaf Dragon Blue and Green 49

I like the way the ripples turned out on this one. His blue body and green ears go nicely together.

Have a great day!

Sketch #105 Leaf Dragon Blue/Green 48

This guy has a new ear and tail design. It makes him a bit curly looking.

Sketch #104 Leaf Dragon Red Pair 47

This pair I made in preparation for  Valentine's Day. With my usual delay, I managed to finish it just after Valentines and it has finally made it's way to the end of the queue, early for Valentine's Day 2013 :D Anyway, I think they turned out quite cute. I am thinking about sketching more pairs as they create a fetching composition.

Belated happy Valentine's Day!

Sketch #103 Leaf Dragon Leaf Green 46

This guy is the last leaf green leaf dragon in my Waitbook 1.  Since I have just 6 more leaf dragons to clean and post, I think I will break open my Waitbook 2 and commence.

Have a fabulous day!

Sketch #102 Leaf Dragon Purple 45

This guy is the last purple guy in Waitbook 1. I really like how the shading turned out on the ears and tail.

Aloha,
Theta

Sketch #101 Leaf Dragon Red-Orange 44

This guy is a kin to the oak leaf dragon. I think he turned out quite handsome and is a pretty addition to the collection.

Have a joyously orange day :D

This guy can hide in the shadows in the fall.

Counting down - only 9 more left to clean up and post :)

Sketch #99 Leaf Dragon Red-Orange/Green 42

I like the way the colors came out on this guy. He has a straightforward look in his eyes and is posing very nicely.

Have a blessed afternoon and evening!

Sketch #98 Leaf Dragon Blue/Green 41

This guy has fan leaf ears and tail. He looks like he could live on land or in the water.

Sketch #97 Scene 7

This is the last scene I drew in my Waitbook 1. I am looking forward to sketching more scenes in my next Waitbook 2.The rest of my Waitbook 1 is filled with leaf dragons.

I was doodling along and decided to add an elf king to the sketch. He seems to think he is hidden, concentrating so hard on the reddish flying prey, but he's not. The little blue guy without antennae seems to be thinking about what kind of threat the king may be, probably none. He doesn't have a net and their size is quite large relative to his. The oak leaf dragon is keeping very still in hopes that the king will not see him, so far so good :)

I enjoy drawing these scenes. They do take longer to sketch, ink, and color than a single item, thus I have to be in the proper mood to work on one.

Have a wondrous day,
Theta

Sketch #96 Scene 6

In this sixth scene the Leaf Dragon is  hunting, but its prey is flying around unconcerned. Maybe he is full...

Have a great day!

This friendly light green specimen posing prettily for her portrait has a different style of tail. I quite like her style.

Sketch #94 Leaf Dragon Brown 39

This brown guy doesn't seem quite as shy as some; he looks a bit worried. Maybe it is spring and he hasn't been able to get his skin to change to his spring colors. This would make it harder for him to hunt and actually catch his dinner. He has quite a long goatee and a large tail leaf.

Have a great day!

Marching right along with sketches from my waitbook.

This handsome fella is very happy to pose for is portrait. I like the way his face has turned out.

Have a great day!

Sketch #92 Leaf Dragon Green 37

This Leaf Dragon is a bit darker, more like the leaves in summer or shadow. He should be very well camouflaged. I like the way his head, ears, and tail came out. This guy, too, looks a bit shy posing for his portrait.

Makes me think, I really should be taking more photographs...

Have a beautiful day!

Sketch #91 Leaf Dragon Green 36

Happy Birthday Miss Myra!

This Leaf dragon's tail is a bit different with its perforations.  I rather like the look of his tail and the waviness of his ears. It looks a bit like he is shyly, but proudly, posing for his portrait.

Have a fun day!

Sketch #90 Leaf Dragon Lavender 35

This is my third lavender Leaf Dragon. Despite his color, which I wouldn't think would be very camouflaging, he seems to be getting enough to eat. Perhaps he hunts at dawn and dusk. I think he turned out quite well.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

Sketch #89 Leaf Dragon Green 34

Another green Leaf Dragon, I think he shall do very well hiding in the foliage of spring.

There are 20 pages left in my sketchbook. I'm trying to get at least one colored each day... and one posted. The pressure is on to finish this waitbook so I can start my new one :D The nice thing is that there really is no pressure and I am enjoying myself very much.

Have a wonderful day!

Sketch #88 Leaf Dragon Brown 33

This oak leaf guy with his fine features (maybe he is actually a she) I colored in several shades of brown (that, I suppose, would also indicate it be a she).

Have a great day!

Sketch #87 Leaf Dragon Lavender 32

This is my second lavender Leaf Dragon. Instead of spines, I decided on ripples. I quite like the way he turned out, especially his ears and tail. His front tooth is a bit too bent to be very effective at grabbing and holding on to his prey. However, he does seem to be getting enough to eat.

Ciao,

Sketch #86 Leaf Dragon Green 31

I gave this guy a nice fat green body with spines. The spines give him a very nice silhouette.

Have a great day!

Sketch #85 Leaf Dragon Orange 30

This guy I did in orange and yellow. We have a lot of lemons and lemon blossoms on our tree right now and out grapefruit is blossoming, so the lovely fragrance from the trees comes wafting in - especially in the evening. I think the smells of the flowers tainted my coloring job on this bright guy.

Have a sunshiny day!

Sketch #84 Water Dragon

The boys wanted me to draw another one of these dragon types. This guy is pretty fat and a bit eel like. He'll have to live in the water where other animals will stay away from him due to his bright coloring.

Have a sunshiny day :)

Sketch #83 Leaf Dragon Yellow Green 29

I really like the coloring on this guy. Especially the way his tail came out.

I finished sketching and inking all the pages in my sketchbook on Sunday evening. I am now coloring furiously.  I would like to finish coloring in my book before starting on my next book, but I don't know if will be able to or not :)

Hope you have a good laugh today :)

Sketch #82 Leaf Dragon Purple 28

I decided to try purple this time. It came out nice and bright. Maybe it is hanging out in the twilight and the sky's colors are affecting its colors.

Have a great day!

Sketch #81 Leaf Dragon Green Orange 27

This guy is a bit less colorful, but I like his contrasting ears and body. They liven him up a bit.

Sketch #80 Leaf Dragon Multi 26

I think this guy came out very pretty. He looks a bit like a rainbow.

Saturday, February 11, 2012

Sketch #79 Leaf Dragon Orange 25

This one is also a bit monochromatic and great for hiding in fall foliage. He seems happier about his color [better eye] :) I like the way his body and tail flow, it's a happy movement.

Have a happy day!

Sketch #78 Leaf Dragon Green 24

This guy is back to being a bit more monochromatic. He doesn't seem much happier about it though. I was experimenting with his eye and it just didn't work out like I wanted it too. The nice thing about these guys is that I don't stress out about an experiment gone wrong. If what I'm doing doesn't work out the first try or two, I let it be and move on. Sometimes, inking or coloring can make a huge difference in the way the sketch finally appears, sometimes not. He has a good body shape and his colors came out fairly even. I also like the way his tail, nose, teeth, and mouth came out.

Theta

Sketch #77 Leaf Dragon Blue/Red 23

I had a lot of fun coloring this guys head, ears, and tail; but, given his expression, I'm not sure how much he appreciates my color experimentation. His eyes combined with the slant of his ears remind me a bit of when Hero (THE CAT) used to get irritated :) This guy is less daunting, though - he has no claws! Yowch!!!

Have a great day!

Sketch #76 Leaf Dragon Orange 22

This dragon is in his fall and/or dead plant colors. I am not enamored with his colors. They did no turn out the way I wanted them too. I think I did not have enough light on him while I was working on him and that is why he is more muted. Note to self - in the early morning, turn on all the lights in the school-room.

Have a fantastic day,

Sketch #75 Leaf Dragon Yellow/Blue 21

This one came out nicely and is another one of my new favorites. He would blend in well at the top of a tree in the spring.

Sketch #74 Leaf Dragon Orange/Purple 20

Happy Birthday Miss Annabelle!

I love the way the colors came out on this one. It is now one of my favorites.

I  have used 96 of the 109 pages in my sketchbook. At this point the ones to be inked are all caught up and I am coloring every time that opportunity and desire coincide. I will miss this book, but my parents bought me a new one that has a soft binding and slightly larger pages. I am hoping I will be able to scan the pages easier with the the soft binding since it lays flat. The pages have less texture and are whiter. I know I will like the brightness of the pages, but I'm not sure about the nap. We'll see.

There is something fearsome about finishing a sketchbook for me. I have quite a few that are mostly or partially used. I often will stop drawing in one when I get past half way and not start up again in a sketchbook for at least 6 mos. and sometimes as long as 5 years. Don't get me wrong, I still draw or paint or something, just not in a sketchbook or on a spiral pad. Most of what I do during these periods gets tossed out. In some cases I have been blessed in that I have drawn on scrapbook pages and these I have kept. People who consecutively fill up one sketchbook or journal after another amaze me.

I am looking forward to finishing this sketchbook in one way, but not in another. It will be nice to have a filled sketchbook, but then it is finished, done...  This time though I have a new one I'm itching to begin - so I'd better hurry up already and finish the old one ;)

Theta

Sketch #73 Poinsettias

Well, I sketched this one in the church sanctuary while waiting for my daughter to finish band practice. They had just put out the poinsettias for Christmas :) Instead of cloning the background like I often do; on this one I cut the flowers out and made a cloned background behind them. Originally I sketched the flowers vertically, but I liked them better in landscape. So, I moved my siggy and date to a better position and right side up.

Sketch #72 Scene 5

This guy is hunting for his lunch. It looks like the caterpillar has spotted the predator and is telling the blue bug to hurry and hide. The blue bug looks a bit worried.

Sketch #71 Duck - Blue

Continuing on... I don't know why I drew a duck or why I decided to color it blue... However, I like it. It seems right somehow.

Sketch #70 Leaf Dragon 19 Blue/Green

I had fun blending the blue into the green on this guy. I drew him before Thanksgiving and must have been looking forward to the meal ;)

Sketch #69 Leaf Dragon Green 18

I am really enjoying the variety of colors I now have at my disposal. They also blend so much better. I finally got around to inking in a bunch of sketches and ow am working on coloring them. Maybe soon I will be able to make it into 2012 :D

Sketch #56 Scene 4

This sketch has been sitting in my sketchbook for awhile and I finally have had the inclination and opportunity to finish it. I like how the color came out. This guy has an unusual trait for my leaf dragons...

Sketch #68 Leaf Dragon Orange 17

This guy I did in browns; he should camouflage nicely in fall foliage. His goatee makes me think of Pharaohs, maybe he lives in the reeds by the Nile.

Doodle

Doodle using colored pencils on drawing paper, approximately 8x8

This is what I ended up with while trying out the colored pencils (Eagle Prismacolor) my dad gave me. I started out with the arcs which evolved eventually into hair. I like the pencils smoothness and blending.

Sketch #67 Leaf Dragon Orange 16

My dad gave me a bunch of colored pencils while I was visiting. Before visiting I had been contemplating doing a dragon in browns and oranges, but I didn't really have the array of colors I felt I needed to use in order to make a smooth enough transition (see sketches #32 and #33). With the new color range I felt comfortable with the color project and this guy was born :) Thanks Dad!

Sketch #66 Leaf Dragon Green 15

A BIG thank you to my parents!

I went to visit my parents for a week and one of the spectacular things they did for me was purchase a new mac for me to pick up at our Hawaii store. It is still such a surprise and blessing. Transferring my 'stuff' over is a joyful chore and Apple was giving away printers with their macs at the time of purchase, and so now I have a dedicated printer to go with my mac.

This guy is the very first thing I scanned with the printer and cleaned up in CS3 (my first project on my new mac). The Apple people said CS3 wouldn't work in Lion, but it does. The Genius bar doesn't know everything.

Anyway, this computer runs much better (probably because it has lots of space) and once I get my kits off of the old one, the old one should run a lot better. No one else puts such a heavy load as I do in this house on the computers, so the old one should be fine for a while, although I think it needs the fan looked at.

So, thanks to my parents, I can now prep and post my sketches. I just have to have waiting or free time to sketch and finish them.

Sketch #65 Leaf Dragon Green 14 Oak Leaf

Belated Happy New Year to everyone. I hope you all had a fabulous first day of the year and subsequent week!

Well, I put a fan directed to the back of my computer and it seems be better... i.e. I was able to scan and save, clean this guy up and save in Photoshop, and lastly post it here :) I also have learned to open certain programs first (or only) before using them and now I shut down regularly... Hopefully, this will keep me operating enough to post my drawings here and do the other things I need to do on my computer.

Hugs,
Theta
