This is the last scene I drew in my Waitbook 1. I am looking forward to sketching more scenes in my next Waitbook 2.The rest of my Waitbook 1 is filled with leaf dragons.
I was doodling along and decided to add an elf king to the sketch. He seems to think he is hidden, concentrating so hard on the reddish flying prey, but he's not. The little blue guy without antennae seems to be thinking about what kind of threat the king may be, probably none. He doesn't have a net and their size is quite large relative to his. The oak leaf dragon is keeping very still in hopes that the king will not see him, so far so good :)
I enjoy drawing these scenes. They do take longer to sketch, ink, and color than a single item, thus I have to be in the proper mood to work on one.
Have a wondrous day,

Sketch #96 Scene 6
In this sixth scene the Leaf Dragon is hunting, but its prey is flying around unconcerned. Maybe he is full...

Sketch #95 Leaf Dragon Green 40
This friendly light green specimen posing prettily for her portrait has a different style of tail. I quite like her style.

Sketch #94 Leaf Dragon Brown 39
This brown guy doesn't seem quite as shy as some; he looks a bit worried. Maybe it is spring and he hasn't been able to get his skin to change to his spring colors. This would make it harder for him to hunt and actually catch his dinner. He has quite a long goatee and a large tail leaf.

Marching right along with sketches from my waitbook.
This handsome fella is very happy to pose for is portrait. I like the way his face has turned out.

Sketch #92 Leaf Dragon Green 37
This Leaf Dragon is a bit darker, more like the leaves in summer or shadow. He should be very well camouflaged. I like the way his head, ears, and tail came out. This guy, too, looks a bit shy posing for his portrait.
Makes me think, I really should be taking more photographs...
Have a beautiful day!

Sketch #91 Leaf Dragon Green 36
Happy Birthday Miss Myra!
This Leaf dragon's tail is a bit different with its perforations. I rather like the look of his tail and the waviness of his ears. It looks a bit like he is shyly, but proudly, posing for his portrait.
Have a fun day!

Sketch #90 Leaf Dragon Lavender 35
This is my third lavender Leaf Dragon. Despite his color, which I wouldn't think would be very camouflaging, he seems to be getting enough to eat. Perhaps he hunts at dawn and dusk. I think he turned out quite well.

Sketch #89 Leaf Dragon Green 34
Another green Leaf Dragon, I think he shall do very well hiding in the foliage of spring.
There are 20 pages left in my sketchbook. I'm trying to get at least one colored each day... and one posted. The pressure is on to finish this waitbook so I can start my new one :D The nice thing is that there really is no pressure and I am enjoying myself very much.

This oak leaf guy with his fine features (maybe he is actually a she) I colored in several shades of brown (that, I suppose, would also indicate it be a she).

Sketch #87 Leaf Dragon Lavender 32
This is my second lavender Leaf Dragon. Instead of spines, I decided on ripples. I quite like the way he turned out, especially his ears and tail. His front tooth is a bit too bent to be very effective at grabbing and holding on to his prey. However, he does seem to be getting enough to eat.

Sketch #85 Leaf Dragon Orange 30
This guy I did in orange and yellow. We have a lot of lemons and lemon blossoms on our tree right now and out grapefruit is blossoming, so the lovely fragrance from the trees comes wafting in - especially in the evening. I think the smells of the flowers tainted my coloring job on this bright guy.

Sketch #84 Water Dragon
The boys wanted me to draw another one of these dragon types. This guy is pretty fat and a bit eel like. He'll have to live in the water where other animals will stay away from him due to his bright coloring.

Sketch #83 Leaf Dragon Yellow Green 29
I really like the coloring on this guy. Especially the way his tail came out.
I finished sketching and inking all the pages in my sketchbook on Sunday evening. I am now coloring furiously. I would like to finish coloring in my book before starting on my next book, but I don't know if will be able to or not :)
Hope you have a good laugh today :)

This one is also a bit monochromatic and great for hiding in fall foliage. He seems happier about his color [better eye] :) I like the way his body and tail flow, it's a happy movement.

Sketch #78 Leaf Dragon Green 24
This guy is back to being a bit more monochromatic. He doesn't seem much happier about it though. I was experimenting with his eye and it just didn't work out like I wanted it too. The nice thing about these guys is that I don't stress out about an experiment gone wrong. If what I'm doing doesn't work out the first try or two, I let it be and move on. Sometimes, inking or coloring can make a huge difference in the way the sketch finally appears, sometimes not. He has a good body shape and his colors came out fairly even. I also like the way his tail, nose, teeth, and mouth came out.

Sketch #77 Leaf Dragon Blue/Red 23
I had a lot of fun coloring this guys head, ears, and tail; but, given his expression, I'm not sure how much he appreciates my color experimentation. His eyes combined with the slant of his ears remind me a bit of when Hero (THE CAT) used to get irritated :) This guy is less daunting, though - he has no claws! Yowch!!!

Sketch #76 Leaf Dragon Orange 22
This dragon is in his fall and/or dead plant colors. I am not enamored with his colors. They did no turn out the way I wanted them too. I think I did not have enough light on him while I was working on him and that is why he is more muted. Note to self - in the early morning, turn on all the lights in the school-room.

Sketch #74 Leaf Dragon Orange/Purple 20
Happy Birthday Miss Annabelle!
I love the way the colors came out on this one. It is now one of my favorites.
I have used 96 of the 109 pages in my sketchbook. At this point the ones to be inked are all caught up and I am coloring every time that opportunity and desire coincide. I will miss this book, but my parents bought me a new one that has a soft binding and slightly larger pages. I am hoping I will be able to scan the pages easier with the the soft binding since it lays flat. The pages have less texture and are whiter. I know I will like the brightness of the pages, but I'm not sure about the nap. We'll see.
There is something fearsome about finishing a sketchbook for me. I have quite a few that are mostly or partially used. I often will stop drawing in one when I get past half way and not start up again in a sketchbook for at least 6 mos. and sometimes as long as 5 years. Don't get me wrong, I still draw or paint or something, just not in a sketchbook or on a spiral pad. Most of what I do during these periods gets tossed out. In some cases I have been blessed in that I have drawn on scrapbook pages and these I have kept. People who consecutively fill up one sketchbook or journal after another amaze me.
I am looking forward to finishing this sketchbook in one way, but not in another. It will be nice to have a filled sketchbook, but then it is finished, done... This time though I have a new one I'm itching to begin - so I'd better hurry up already and finish the old one ;)

Sketch #73 Poinsettias
Well, I sketched this one in the church sanctuary while waiting for my daughter to finish band practice. They had just put out the poinsettias for Christmas :) Instead of cloning the background like I often do; on this one I cut the flowers out and made a cloned background behind them. Originally I sketched the flowers vertically, but I liked them better in landscape. So, I moved my siggy and date to a better position and right side up.

This guy is hunting for his lunch. It looks like the caterpillar has spotted the predator and is telling the blue bug to hurry and hide. The blue bug looks a bit worried.

Sketch #69 Leaf Dragon Green 18
I am really enjoying the variety of colors I now have at my disposal. They also blend so much better. I finally got around to inking in a bunch of sketches and ow am working on coloring them. Maybe soon I will be able to make it into 2012 :D
